80% Will Quit THIS Week

I remember how amped I was in the gym at college. Just back for spring semester, I had hit the gym hard.

Way. Too. Hard.

The next day, my shoulders were in such pain that I remember I had to have my roommate help me take off my jacket.

Because my shoulders just didn’t work anymore…

And that was the extent of my health kick for that year.

I quit.

Just like 80% of gym goers do the second week of February.

For real though, that old 80/20 rule popping up here too!

I did some searching and found some reports that as much as 80% of people who begin any sort of gym/exercise routine in Jan quit by the second week of February.

Everyone who starts in January has good intentions, right?

“This is the year!”

“This year will be different!”

And still, 8 out of 10 throw in the towel within 6 weeks.

I know that’s how it was for me.

Year after year I tried to make a change.

And year after year I failed. And failed. And failed.

Until a group of superheroes walked up to me in slow motion with a huge explosion right behind them to change my life.

Who’s telling this story? Me or you?

So maybe I exaggerate slightly with the superheroes. And no slow-mo walking away from explosions.

But there was a hero.

One person.

One relationship.

One person who I had watched change her life over the course of a year.

I watched her lose ONE HUNDRED POUNDS. And then she kept going.

Literally she lost the weight of my 11 year old son, Phineas.

I asked her to help me, and she did. And I knew she could.

She had what I wanted.

She had found a path of success.

I did exactly what she coached me to do.

And I hit my target weight just a few months later.

Almost 10 years later…I was in the same rut, this time with my business.

I was drowning in the stress of my real estate career.

Constantly on call for clients, every person I talked to was a potential commission, every month hunting for the next seller or buyer I could find.

Every day on the hunt. Early mornings. Late evenings. Missing time with my small children. Working on the weekends.

Stuck.

I was desperate for something more, something greater than just chasing the next commission.

That’s when I found buying apartments.

And I got all amped up, bought a course, studied and watched all the videos.

Then hit the wall of reality when nothing worked.

Every property I analyzed was junk. Every conversation I had with someone about investing was a dead end.

And then…

My cousin wanted us to spend FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to fly across the country to a conference.

Like…DUDE! We have already spent money on courses. NOT excited about spending 5K to go to a conference.

But we did. Against my better judgement.

And from the stage we saw a panel of rockstars in the apartment space.

And the magic fairy dust fell on everyone who was there and we all left with portfolios larger than we could have possibly dreamed!

Again…maybe some exaggeration here.

Instead, we found the person.

The one person. Our partner, Nick.

The start of a relationship that changed the course of our lives.

Someone who had done what we wanted to do. Someone who had experience doing what we wanted to do. Someone who could help us cross the finish line.

4 months after we met Nick, we closed our first deal. We were able to close that deal…not because we were experts.

Not because we had taken the right course.

But because we had found the right person.

We were able to build a relationship with the person we needed to actually get a deal closed.

The education was important. Knowing the basics when we got started was key. But THE REASON we got our first deal closed wasn’t because we had studied.

It was because we had worked to be in the same room as the person we needed to meet.

That person changed our lives.

You are ONE person, one relationship away from your dreams.

Are you putting yourself in the right place to meet them?

Is this really your year? It’s easy to say. 80% quit. The 20% who succeed are the ones who find that person.

Want to get started with a real mentor and the network you need to get deals done?

Get in the same room and build the relationship.
